Wilmette, Illinois, January 4, 2017 — Offering a creative plan for balancing the state’s budget, entrepreneur and women’s rights activist, Alexandra Eidenberg, leads the pack as an independent Democratic voice in a hotly contested race for the Illinois House of Representatives 17th District, which covers Chicago’s north suburbs of Glenview, Wilmette, Skokie, Evanston and Northfield.
Even as five more candidates joined the race, Eidenberg continues to lead with an aggressive field team and her growing list of endorsements, including a former opponent -- Theresa Coomer -- who announced this week that she is dropping out of the race and endorsing our gal, Al.
Eidenberg is President and co-founder of The Insurance People, a small, full-service insurance practice in Skokie, specializing in health insurance. As a successful business owner, she champions a balanced budget for Illinois and offers an innovative agenda for broadening the state’s revenue base through progressive taxes, marijuana regulation and taxation, and small business support to catalyze job creation - good paying jobs.
Eidenberg is also a mother of four and the Founder of WeWill (formerly Mom+Baby), which empowers women to get involved in the legislative process. She has an impressive track record of organizing coalitions to advance women’s and children’s rights in Springfield, fighting for family leave, health care reform and the Equal Rights Amendment. This hard work has earned the endorsement of more than a dozen current legislators, including 12th District State Representative & Assistant Majority Leader Sara Feigenholtz, 40th District Senator Toi Hutchinson, and 19th District State Representative Rob Martwick.
“We need an independent Democratic voice to change what’s going on in Springfield,” says Eidenberg, who has promised to decline endorsements from any Illinois politician with a shallow record on fighting corruption. She is endorsed by a diverse array of respected local civic and business leaders who work closely with the people Eidenberg is running to represent, such as Evanston Parks, Recreation & Community Services Board Member Denise Barreto, New Trier Township Trustee Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg, and District 39 School Board Member Ellen Sternweiller.
