Wilmette, Illinois, January 8, 2017 — Theresa Coomer is a teacher with a background in veteran and armed forces affairs, and until last week, she was a candidate for State Representative in the 17th District, which covers Chicago’s north suburbs of Glenview, Wilmette, Skokie, Evanston and Northfield. Coomer has been working hard on the campaign trail, and along the way, she met and continued bumping into Alexandra Eidenberg, an entrepreneur, mother, women’s rights activist and also a candidate for State Representative in the 17th District.
The two women connected and quickly sparked up a friendship, centered around their shared passion for women supporting women. Then, last week, Coomer announced she was dropping out of the race and not only endorsing Alexandra Eidenberg, but also joining her campaign team.
“I know that Alexandra can move the ball forward here in Illinois,” said Coomer in an official statement. “I’m looking forward to working with her to make this place great, so that our children, our veterans, and everyone else can thrive here.”
“This is MASSIVE!” Eidenberg told her campaign supporters during a recent Facebook LIVE video. “Theresa Coomer is such a great asset, and I am thrilled to add her to our team! She is going to be working as an organizer out of our campaign office in Skokie, coordinating our volunteers and helping with our veteran and armed forces outreach.”
Eidenberg is President and co-founder of The Insurance People, a small, full-service insurance practice in Skokie, specializing in health insurance. She advocates for equal pay, education equity, and human rights. Alexandra is campaigning to creatively broaden the state’s revenue base through progressive taxes, marijuana regulation and taxation, and small business support to catalyze job creation. Eidenberg is also the Founder of WeWill (formerly Mom+Baby), which empowers women to get involved in the legislative process. She has an impressive track record of organizing coalitions to advance women’s and children’s rights in Springfield, fighting for family leave, health care reform and the Equal Rights Amendment. This hard work has earned her the endorsement of more than a dozen current legislators, including 12th District State Representative & Assistant Majority Leader Sara Feigenholtz, 40th District Senator Toi Hutchinson, and 19th District State Representative Rob Martwick.
